In Africa, marriage is a sacred institution that is not toiled with in any way. For Africans, especially
Nigerians, the union between a man and a woman must be protected from external interference. That is
why parents advise their children to endure their marriages, even when there are clear evidences of trouble
or incompatibility between the husband and wife.
In the olden days, parents were actively involved in the choice of their children’s spouses, though such
cultures have now been thrown into the gutters due to civilization.
However, when a lady leaves her parents, her mother ought to let go and allow her enjoy her new home,
while such mother stays glued to her own husband. But once in a while, she pays visits to her daughter,
especially when she gives birth to a new baby or her help is urgently needed.
Some years ago, Super Eagles defender, Joseph Yobo, took former beauty queen, Adaeze Igwe as wife. The

But shortly after that, Yobo’s mother-in-law, Abigail Igwe, was accused of causing trouble in the marriage
of her daughter due to her continued stay in her the lady’s matrimonial home.

fans have hit out at his mother-in-law. “Why is this woman always with her daughter? Her intrusion is
getting out of hands,” one of the fans said.
